Cairo: Egypt's agricultural exports reached $4.7 billion from September 2024 to August 2025, according to Abdel Hamid Demerdash, Head of the Agricultural Export Council (AEC), with $300 million from medicinal and aromatic plants.
According to State Information Service Egypt, speaking at a press conference announcing the launch of the 4th Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Festival in Beni Suef, Demerdash said that the sector exported a total of 7 million tons over the year, an 11% increase compared to the previous period.
He noted that the new festival edition's announcement highlights Egypt's strong position in cultivating and exporting medicinal plants.
Demerdash added that Beni Suef alone accounts for around 15,000 feddans of cultivated land, making it the country's leading governorate in this field.
The AEC described the medicinal and aromatic plant sector as a major growth area within Egypt's agricultural exports, calling it a vital economic resource and a key pillar of the national agricultural strategy.
