Egyptian, Greek FMs Discuss Strategic Partnership, Regional Developments

Cairo: Badr Abdelatty, Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs, received a phone call on Sunday from his Greek counterpart, Mr. Georgios Gerapetritis. The call was part of the regular consultations between the two ministers, focusing on bilateral relations and regional developments.

According to State Information Service Egypt, both ministers praised the historical ties and strong relations between their countries. They welcomed the momentum in bilateral cooperation following the upgrade of their relations to a strategic partnership in May. The ministers expressed a shared commitment to strengthening collaboration and expanding relations across all fields.

Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's commitment to protecting religious sanctities, including Saint Catherine's Monastery, emphasizing the need to preserve its sacred status and protect its archaeological sites due to their spiritual and religious significance.

The ministers also exchanged views on developments in the Middle East, particularly the humanitarian and health situation in Gaza. Abdelatty briefed his Greek counterpart on efforts to reach a permanent ceasefire agreement in Gaza, stressing the importance of ending bloodshed and ensuring the continuous flow of humanitarian aid to the territory.

The call further addressed the situation in Libya, highlighting the need to hold simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections. Both ministers underscored the necessity of dismantling militias and the withdrawal of all foreign forces, fighters, and mercenaries as essential steps to securing peace and stability in Libya.
