Egypt Unveils Telemedicine Platform to Connect Diaspora Doctors with Local Patients

Cairo: Egypt's Healthcare Authority (EHA) announced a national telemedicine platform designed to connect Egyptian doctors abroad with patients at home, part of a government push to tap expatriate medical expertise, a statement from the Egyptian Cabinet showed.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the initiative was unveiled at a meeting between EHA head Ahmed El-Sobky and actor Hany Salama, who was named ambassador for the project in recognition of his efforts to map Egyptian doctors working overseas.

El-Sobky stated that the platform would advance Egypt's 'smart healthcare' model, enabling remote consultations across hospitals operating under the universal health insurance system. The project will be rolled out with support from Egyptian embassies and relevant ministries, he added.

The authority praised Salama's appointment, saying his public profile would help foster trust in national health initiatives. Salama expressed hope that the platform would serve as 'a bridge between Egyptian doctors abroad and patients at home,' ensuring their skills benefit citizens inside the country.
