Egypt succeeds in issuing joint statement in UNHRC hailing family role during Covid 19

The permanent representative of Egypt to the UN Office at Geneva, Ahmed Ihab Gamaleddin announced on Monday  13/6/2022that Egypt has succeeded in coordinating with more than 95 countries to issue a joint statement highlighting the pivotal role of the family institution as the natural and basic unit in the society, which has the right to protect the community and the state.

That came at the start of the 50th session of the UNHRC in Geneva that kicked off proceedings on Monday he added in a statement issued by the foreign ministry.

Gamal Eddin said the statement, which got the backing of different geographical areas, asserted countries will remain committed to taking certain measures ensuring further support and protection of this social institution as well as boosting its unity and sustainability, especially during facing crises, referring to Covid-19 pandemic.

He pointed out the statement mentioned the impacts of coronavirus crisis on the contribution of the family to protecting and promoting human rights.

Covid-19 pandemic has negatively affected forms of support offered by families to their members, particularly children and the elderly, in addition to balance between work and family and gender equality as well as other walks of family life, according to him.

Despite challenges, families have played an important role in alleviating the impacts of the pandemic, the statement stressed.
