Egypt Introduces Fifth Special Train for Sudanese Refugee Return

Cairo: Egypt's National Railway Authority (NRA) commenced the operation of the fifth special train under the voluntary return program for Sudanese nationals on Sunday, August 17th, 2025. This initiative is part of Cairo's commitment to providing humanitarian and logistical support to Sudan.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the special train, designated as No. 1940 and equipped with third-class air-conditioning, departed from Cairo Station at 11:00 a.m. It is scheduled to arrive at Aswan's High Dam Station at 11:40 p.m. on the same day. The return journey for this service is set for Monday, August 18, with train No. 1945, also third-class air-conditioned, departing Aswan at 8:30 p.m. and arriving in Cairo at 9:25 a.m. the following morning. This return service will accommodate regular passengers as well.

To facilitate a more comfortable journey for the Sudanese passengers, the NRA has added an extra luggage carriage, referred to as "Spensa," to the trains. This addition allows for more personal belongings to be carried, enhancing the overall travel experience.

The launch of these special trains underscores Egypt's dedication to aiding the Sudanese community during difficult periods, highlighting the longstanding historical connections between the two nations.
