Cairo: Agricultural Research Centre signed on Monday, August 18th, 2025, a joint research protocol with the Military Technical College to produce potash fertilizers, as per a Cabinet statement. The agreement seeks to deepen partnerships across sectors to develop agricultural technologies suited to Egypt's environment and support state plans for sustainable development.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the protocol focuses on extracting potassium from renewable natural sources such as feldspar rocks to enable local production of potash fertilizers. Egypt currently imports about 1 million tons of potassium annually, with the local soil containing lower levels than the global average.
Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk stated that domestic production would help reduce import dependence, save foreign currency, and improve agricultural productivity.
