Egypt Expresses Deep Concern Over Reports of Famine in Gaza Strip

Cairo: The Arab Republic of Egypt expresses its deep concern regarding the increasing reports on the state of famine in the Gaza Strip, the latest of which is the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) report, which officially confirmed the existence of a famine in the Gaza Strip following 22 months of the brutal Israeli war on the Gaza Strip and the crimes committed against the innocent civilians in the Strip.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the Arab Republic of Egypt stresses the necessity for the international community to put an end to the blatant crimes and violations being committed, among the consequences of which is the tragic humanitarian situation in the Strip. Egypt calls on the international community to intervene decisively against Israel's transgressions, which have reached the extent of imposing restrictions on the entry of available humanitarian assistance that is capable of ending the famine in the shortest possible time.

The Arab Republic of Egypt underscores the responsibility of the international community for the current state of affairs, which has resulted from the pursuit of double-standard policies that do not reflect the universality of human rights-rights that have been both politicized and reduced to mere lip service over the past decades. This has occurred while there has been a failure to defend the most basic of these values during the Israeli aggressive war on the Gaza Strip against a defenseless people, who are now deprived of their daily sustenance without effective intervention from the international community to stop this war.

The Arab Republic of Egypt values the statements of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ant³nio Guterres, in which he affirmed that the famine in the Gaza Strip is a man-made disaster and a failure of humanity, emphasizing Israel's obligations under international law to ensure the provision of medical and food supplies to the population as the occupying power.
