Egypt Engages in Wilton Park Meeting on Gaza Reconstruction Efforts

Cairo: Egypt participated in an informal technical meeting organized by the UK's Wilton Park Foundation from October 13-15. Led by Ambassador Mahmoud Omar, Assistant Foreign Minister and Director of the Palestine Department, the gathering was co-chaired by Egypt, the United Kingdom, and Palestine. It focused on innovative financing mechanisms to support Gaza's reconstruction amid extensive destruction and prohibitive costs. Discussions featured experts in finance, investment, and the private sector, alongside representatives from relevant ministries and technical agencies. According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting-planned before the recent ceasefire in Gaza-was part of preparations for the upcoming Cairo International Conference on Early Recovery, Reconstruction, and Development in Gaza, scheduled for the second half of November. Participants commended Egypt's pivotal role in mediating the ceasefire and launching reconstruction efforts. In line with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's recent an nouncement, Egypt is finalizing preparations for the Cairo conference in coordination with the United States and all regional and international partners, including donor countries, UN and regional organizations, financial institutions, the private sector, and civil society.
