Egypt endorsed policies to implement SDGs with climate-friendly approach

Egypt has developed a comprehensive set of policies to promote and implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) while adopting a climate-friendly approach, said Planning and Economic Development Minister Hala el Said.

The minister, meanwhile, pointed out to the update of Egypt Vision 2030 as well as the issuance of public and private green bonds.

The minister also referred to the efforts of the Sovereign Fund of Egypt to mobilize investments in the green hydrogen sphere and environment-friendly transport.

Said’s remarks were made during delivering a speech via video-conferencing at an event held under the rubric “Localizing the sustainable development goals in order to face the consequences of climate change and achieve green recovery.”

The event was held on the sidelines of the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) on sustainable development for year 2022.

The Egyptian government has paid great attention to the localization of sustainable development goals at the governorate level, as a solution to geographical gaps and inequality and to ensure that “no one is left behind” in the development process, added the minister.

The “Decent Life” presidential initiative which was launched by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi in 2019 at a total cost worth EGP 800 billion aims to improve the quality of life in rural areas, said the minister.

This initiative has been recognized by UN-DESA as one of the accelerators to achieve the sustainable development goals (SDGs), she further said.
