Egypt Dispatches 14th Aid Convoy to Gaza as Crisis Deepens

Cairo: Egypt dispatched its 14th aid convoy to the Gaza Strip on Wednesday morning, August 13, 2025, via the Rafah border crossing, as part of ongoing efforts to support Palestinians amid the worsening humanitarian disaster caused by Israel's genocidal war on the enclave. The initiative, known as Zad Al-Ezza: From Egypt to Gaza, was launched by the Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC) on July 27 and carried hundreds of tons of essential supplies coordinated by the ERC and state institutions.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the convoy is part of Egypt's continued relief efforts to address the famine resulting from Israel's military actions and blockade in Gaza. The aid includes food baskets, flour, infant formula, and personal care items. This follows the 13th convoy, which delivered thousands of tons of food, medical equipment, hospital beds, and fuel just a day prior.

The 12th and 11th convoys, sent earlier in the week, comprised over 5,000 tons of food and medical supplies, along with diesel tankers and tens of thousands of loaves of bread prepared by the ERC. Since Israeli forces seized control of the five crossings leading into Gaza, aid has been entering the strip from the Egyptian side of Rafah through the Karm Abu Salem crossing.

Egyptian officials have reported that Israeli inspections and restrictions have caused significant delays, resulting in large numbers of trucks being held up on the Egyptian side of Rafah. On Monday, members of The Elders, a peace advocacy group, visited ERC warehouses in Arish, North Sinai, observing substantial amounts of food and medicine awaiting clearance. They condemned the situation, stating the 'Israeli killing and starving of Gaza must end now,' after conversing with drivers whose trucks were repeatedly turned back without explanation.

ERC executive director Amal Imam noted that since the conflict began, Egypt has dispatched 36,000 trucks carrying over 500,000 tonnes of aid, consisting of 70% humanitarian supplies and 30% relief and medical goods. Additionally, the Egyptian Armed Forces have conducted multiple airdrops to reach isolated areas of Gaza, ensuring aid delivery despite the challenging conditions.
