Cairo: The Ministry of Labour announced on Monday, September 1st, 2025, that Thursday, September 4th, will be an official paid holiday for private sector workers under Labour Law No. 14 of 2025 on the occasion of Mawlid al-Nabi (Prophet Muhammad's Birth Anniversary).
According to State Information Service Egypt, Egypt's labour ministry stated that Thursday, Sept. 4, will be a paid holiday for private sector employees to commemorate Mawlid al-Nabi. The announcement specifies that employers have the option to require employees to work on this day if necessary. However, under Labour Law No. 14 of 2025, employees who work on this day are entitled to either double pay or a substitute day off.
The ministry further ensured the enforcement of this holiday by issuing Circular No. 16 of 2025. This circular directs regional offices and departments to implement the holiday provisions across workplaces nationwide.
