Cairo: Egypt's health ministry announced that nearly 2.9 million surgeries have been conducted since 2018 as part of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's initiative to eliminate waiting lists for critical operations.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the program has received over 311,000 hotline calls, with approximately 277,000 cases tracked from July 2023 to September 2025. The statement from the ministry detailed that the operations encompassed a variety of medical fields including cardiac, orthopedic, oncology, ophthalmology, neurosurgery, kidney and liver transplants, cochlear implants, and vascular procedures.
The initiative ensures that patients are distributed among hospitals to facilitate quicker access to necessary treatments, with all surgeries provided free of charge, as mentioned in the statement.
