Cairo: Kamel El-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, met on Thursday, October 23, 2025, with Chinese Ambassador to Cairo Liao Liqiang and his delegation to review ongoing joint projects and explore future cooperation in the fields of transport and industry.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting focused on strengthening industrial and investment partnerships within the framework of the strategic relationship between Egypt and China. Discussions included plans to expand the 'TEDA' industrial zone in the Suez Canal Economic Zone, which currently hosts over 200 Chinese companies with investments exceeding $3 billion and providing more than 70,000 jobs.
Minister El-Wazir emphasized Egypt's commitment to creating a favorable environment for Chinese investments, particularly in high-tech, green, and value-added industries. He also highlighted progress in aligning Egyptian and Chinese industrial standards to facilitate trade and improve product competitiveness.
The two sides discussed the implementation of the third phase of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) project and agreed on accelerating work on the fourth phase to connect the new Obour and 10th of Ramadan stations. Ambassador Liao praised the depth of Egyptian-Chinese relations, noting that the partnership is at its strongest stage in history, and welcomed Egypt's invitation to Chinese companies to participate in the upcoming TRANMEA Exhibition and Conference on smart transport, logistics, and industry in November.
