Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri received on Wednesday 27/3/2024 a phone call from his British Counterpart David Cameron to discuss the situation in Gaza Strip and the necessary actions to end the humanitarian crisis in the Strip, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said.
The two ministers exchanged assessments of the deteriorating humanitarian and security conditions in the Gaza Strip. They also discussed the regional and international efforts to achieve a ceasefire, exchange detainees, and deliver full humanitarian aid into the Strip, Abu Zeid said.
The two ministers also stressed the necessity of ensuring the implementation of Security Council Resolution 2728 and the inevitability of building on it to reach a sustainable ceasefire to end the aggravating humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Abu Zeid added.
The Foreign Ministry Spokesman also said that the two ministers discussed ways of coordination between regional and international actors in order to end the war in the Gaza Strip and put an end to
the worsening humanitarian catastrophe there. Within this context, Minister Shoukri stressed that Egypt is continuing its efforts at all levels to facilitate reaching an agreement to achieve a permanent ceasefire and calm the situation.
Shoukri reiterated Egypt’s categorical rejection of any ground military operation in the Palestinian city of Rafah, warning of its grave humanitarian repercussions and its potential security spillover on the stability of the region. He also emphasized the need to put an end to Israeli practices including indiscriminate targeting, starvation, and collective punishment against Palestinian civilians.
