Egypt and US Diplomats Discuss Efforts to End Gaza Conflict

Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Badr Abdelatty received a phone call from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, during which the two discussed efforts to end the war in the Gaza Strip.

According to State Information Service Egypt, US Secretary of State Rubio praised Egypt's 'leading role in promoting peace and stability in the region' and affirmed Washington's keenness to enhance coordination with Cairo in efforts to bring an end to the conflict, foreign ministry spokesperson Tamim Khalaf said in a statement.

Rubio outlined a plan put forward by US President Donald Trump on September 29 aimed at halting Israel's military operations in Gaza, securing the release of hostages, ensuring humanitarian aid delivery, and preventing both annexation and displacement.

Abdelatty welcomed Trump's 'sincere efforts' to end the war and reaffirmed Egypt's commitment to supporting de-escalation and restoring calm in the region, according to the statement.

He called for increased humanitarian aid to Gaza, the withdrawal of Israeli forces, and the prevention of any annexation of the West Bank or displacement of Palestinians.

Abdelatty also stressed the importance of reviving the peace process on the basis of a two-state solution, which he said should guarantee Palestinians' right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state, ensuring peace and security for both Palestinians and Israelis.
