Cairo: Egypt and Qatar have underscored the necessity of capitalizing on the regional and international momentum generated by US President Donald Trump's ceasefire proposal for Gaza. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptians Abroad, Badr Abdelatty, engaged in a phone conversation with Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. They highlighted this momentum as a crucial opportunity to halt bloodshed and address the severe humanitarian crisis affecting the Palestinian people.
According to State Information Service Egypt, this phone call is part of ongoing Arab coordination and discussions about the latest efforts to stop the Israeli conflict in the Gaza Strip. The spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tamim Khalaf, stated that both ministers reiterated the Arab stance demanding an immediate halt to hostilities. They also emphasized the necessity for unrestricted access to humanitarian, relief, and medical aid to Gaza and opposed any attempts to forcibly displace or change the demographic composition of the region.
The ministers further emphasized the importance of maintaining the unity of Palestinian territories, including both Gaza and the West Bank, as a fundamental basis for achieving a two-state solution. This solution envisions the creation of an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
