Cairo: Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat met with Minister of International Development in Norway Asmund Aukrust to explore avenues for enhancing cooperation in the field of renewable energy. The meeting, held in Cairo, also included Norway's Ambassador to Cairo, Erik B. Husem, and Mohamed Amer, Regional Director of Norway's Scatec, alongside their delegations.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the discussions focused on strategies to bolster partnerships in electricity and energy storage, as well as technological innovation and expertise transfer. These initiatives support the National Energy Strategy, the Energy Transition Plan, and the Electricity Sector Action Plan, which aim to diversify Egypt's energy sources and increase reliance on renewables.
Esmat highlighted plans to introduce battery-based electricity storage projects to boost grid stability, ensure continuous electricity supply, and meet the rising demand for energy. The meeting explored strengthening existing cooperation with the Norwegian Scatec company, injecting new investments into renewable energy and energy storage systems, and supporting the localization of the battery storage industry and technology transfer, particularly with a focus on solar and wind energy.
Esmat emphasized that the National Energy Strategy reflects Egypt's vision for energy transformation, with its executive plans and programs targeting sustainability and energy security. He stressed the importance of achieving flexibility in the unified grid, improving operational quality, reducing fuel consumption, and enhancing the stability and sustainability of the electricity supply.
