Egypt and Nigeria Central Banks Discuss Closer Cooperation

Cairo: Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) Governor Hassan Abdalla met with his Nigerian counterpart Olayemi Cardoso for discussions on expanding bilateral cooperation in banking and financial services, the CBE announced in a statement.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the talks held at the CBE headquarters in Cairo focused on several key areas including supervisory regulations, monetary and macroprudential policy, banking technology, fintech, cybersecurity, and data analytics. Additionally, discussions included capacity building for the banking sector through the Egyptian Banking Institute.

Following their meeting, Abdalla gave Cardoso a tour of the CBE's banknote printing facility located in Egypt's New Administrative Capital. During the tour, Cardoso observed the design, production, and anti-counterfeiting measures employed in currency manufacturing, praising the advanced technology and security standards of the facility.

Abdalla expressed Egypt's commitment to strengthening economic and financial ties with African countries, emphasizing the importance of sharing expertise with regional partners. Cardoso highlighted Nigeria's eagerness to benefit from Egypt's banking experience and viewed the visit as an opportunity to deepen cooperation.

The meeting between the two central bank chiefs follows Abdalla's recent visit to Nigeria during the African Export-Import Bank's annual meetings in Abuja.
