Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates, Badr Abdelatty, recently engaged in discussions with Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdulla Khaleel in Cairo, focusing on expanding bilateral cooperation between Egypt and the Maldives.
According to State Information Service Egypt, both ministers agreed to strengthen ties in key areas such as trade, tourism, education, and cultural exchange. Abdelatty emphasized the importance of increasing tourism from the Maldives and proposed additional scholarships through Al-Azhar and Egyptian universities to promote educational collaboration.
The discussions also covered potential partnerships in training, capacity-building, and joint cultural activities. Abdelatty provided an update on the outcomes of the peace summit held in Sharm El-Sheikh and Egypt's role in facilitating a ceasefire in Gaza. Additionally, he mentioned Egypt's upcoming conference on reconstruction scheduled for November.
Khaleel expressed interest in collaborating with Egypt in sustainable development, clean energy, and education sectors, and commended Egypt's diplomatic initiatives in fostering regional peace. The meeting concluded with the signing of a memorandum of understanding to establish a regular mechanism for political consultations between the two nations.
