Egypt and Germany Discuss Humanitarian Crisis and Regional Security Concerns

Cairo: Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty engaged in a phone call with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul to address the escalating humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and discuss the Iranian nuclear file.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty expressed serious concern over reports of famine in Gaza, emphasizing the international community's responsibility to act against Israeli violations. He highlighted Israel's obligations under international law to ensure the delivery of humanitarian and medical aid as the occupying power.

The Egyptian foreign minister updated his German counterpart on Egypt's initiatives to deliver aid to Gaza and preparations to host an international conference focused on early recovery and reconstruction post-ceasefire. Abdelatty detailed developments in ceasefire discussions, noting Hamas's acceptance of the proposal and urging Israel to respond positively to mitigate the crisis and facilitate humanitarian access.

He cautioned that continued military escalation by Israel would exacerbate the crisis, undermining regional and international peace efforts. On the topic of the Iranian nuclear file, Abdelatty underscored the importance of returning to negotiations to enhance regional and international security, urging Iran to resume cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency to prevent further instability.

The German foreign minister commended Egypt's efforts to secure a ceasefire and ensure aid delivery to Gaza.
