Egypt welcomes UNSC resolution on Yemen

Spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Hafez has welcomed a resolution adopted by the UN Security Council (UNSC) on Yemen, condemning the cross-border attacks by the Houthi terrorist group on Saudi Arabia and the UAE that struck civilians and civil infrastructure.

The spokesman told reporters that the resolution called for immediately stopping these attacks, extending measures and sanctions imposed as per relevant UNSC resolutions and expanding an arms embargo.

He expressed hope that this resolution would bring hostile acts to an end and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian assistance to the civilians as well as pushing forward the path of a political solution.

The resolution will also serve efforts of the UN envoy to Yemen based on the relevant Security Council’s resolutions, the Gulf initiative and its executive mechanisms and the outcomes of the comprehensive national dialogue in a way that preserves Yemen’s unity and independence and integrity of its territories, Hafez said.

Exams of Egypt’s students in Ukraine to be postponed

Minister of Education and Technical Education Tarek Shawqi said that the number of Egyptian students in the pre-university stage is less than 50 in Russia and less than 10 in Ukraine.

Posting on his Facebook page, Shawqi said these students’ exams will be postponed and they are welcome to join Egyptian schools if they choose to come back home.

Egypt tops Africa’s average fixed internet speeds in January

Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli Sunday reviewed a report submitted by Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat on the Ookla Speedtest Global Index for measuring internet speeds for the month of January.

The minister said the index revealed that Egypt topped the African continent in the average fixed internet speed with an average of 35.67 Mbit/s.

This achievement is the result of policies adopted by the Ministry to improve internet speed in Egypt, as well as Telecom Egypt’s plans to develop and improve services and promote the level of customer satisfaction, the minister added.

9th Aswan International Festival of Art & Culture launches on Feb. 15

The Ministry of Culture headed by Inas Abdel Dayem will launch the activities of the 9th Aswan International Festival of Art and Culture on February 15.

 

 The festival runs until February 22 and will be held in Aswan and Abu Simbel City.

 

 

 

 

A number of folklore troupes affiliated to the General Authority of Cultural Palaces are participating in the festival, in addition to the Reda Folklore Troupe and the National Ensemble for Folk and Performing Arts, affiliated to the Artistic House of Folk and Performing Arts.

Higher education min., Armenian ambassador probe bilateral cooperation

Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Khaled Abdel Ghaffar met on Tuesday 8/2/2022 with Armenian Ambassador in Cairo Hrachya Poladian to discuss means of fostering cooperation between both countries in the higher education and scientific research fields.

 

 

The higher education minister congratulated the Armenian ambassador on assuming his new post in Egypt, asserting his ministry’s keenness to boost mechanisms of joint cooperation between the two countries.

Abdel Ghaffar said his ministry is keen to offer all aspects of support to Armenian students enrolled in Egyptian universities and remove all obstacles that may face them.

The meeting touched on issues of bilateral cooperation between Egypt and Armenia mainly as regards exchanging students and recognition of academic degrees.

Meanwhile, the Armenian ambassador affirmed his country’s keenness to consolidate cooperation with Egypt, mainly in the fields of higher education, science and technology among others of mutual interest.

Armenian universities seek to further coordination with the Egyptian universities to exchange expertise between professors and students in both countries, he said.

Egypt, Saudi Arabia start “Morgan-17” naval exercise‎

The Egyptian-Saudi “Morgan-17” naval maneuvers started Monday in Saudi Arabia.

The several days’ drills fall within a series of joint exercises between the two countries.

The naval exercise includes theoretical lectures and training sessions for naval forces of both countries on various military tactics.

The maneuvers aim to enhance cooperation between Egyptian and Saudi navies and unify the operational concepts while carrying out maritime missions against hostile threats.

Cabinet: Egypt’s education rankings improved in 2021

The cabinet’s media center said the State seeks to develop the education system and overcome several challenges it faces; according to an ambitious plan that aims to raise the efficiency of schools, integrate modern technology into the education process, as well as to revamp curricula and adopt new education systems that work on developing students’ skills.

This came in a report published by the media center, including infographs that highlight the outcome of the pre-university education sector.

The report pointed out that Egypt jumped 11 places in the pre-university education sector as part of the Global Knowledge Index. It was ranked 72nd in the 2021 report, compared to the 83rd position in the previous year.

Egypt also advanced three positions in the education ranking issued by US News, in which it came 39th in the 2021 report, compared to 42nd in the 2020 report.

The report noted that Egypt moved up 12 places in the technical education and vocational training index within the Global Knowledge Index. It came 68th in the 2021 report compared to 80th in the 2020 report.
