Cairo: The Egyptian commercial representation office in New Delhi, led by Commercial Counselor Mohamed Abdel Meguid, recently conducted a video-conference meeting to explore strategies for increasing the accessibility of Egyptian agricultural products in the Indian market.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting focused on addressing challenges that hinder the entry of Egyptian agricultural goods into India, with a particular emphasis on fulfilling the Indian requirements for exporting Egyptian pomegranates. This discussion is part of the ongoing efforts following the outcomes of the sixth session of the Egypt-India joint trade committee, which was held in New Delhi in September 2024. Preparations are also underway for the seventh session, set to take place in Cairo next year.
Officials from Egypt's Central Administration of Plant Quarantine, part of the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, participated in the meeting alongside their counterparts from the Indian Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. The discussions included a review of key Egyptian exports to India, such as oranges, aromatic plants, long-staple cotton, dried green beans, and flax seeds.
Additionally, the meeting highlighted India's significant exports to Egypt, which include rice, wood, spices, coffee, and sesame. In the previous year, Egypt's agricultural exports to global markets reached eight million tons, with approximately 300,000 tons directed to the Indian market.
