Doha: The emergency meeting of the Arab Network of National Human Rights Institutions has called for supporting the outcomes of the Arab-Islamic Summit held in Doha, reinforcing diplomatic pressure to halt Israeli violations.
According to Union of OIC News Agencies, the General Assembly recommended backing the summit declaration that advocates suspending Israel's United Nations membership under Article 5 of the Charter. It also emphasized the need for accelerating accountability measures against the Israeli occupation and expanding the cases to include aggression against Qatar. The assembly highlighted the importance of supporting the independence of the international judiciary and aiding judges under political pressure.
The meeting was convened by the National Human Rights Committee to address the repercussions of the Israeli attack on Qatar, which violated the right to life and security. This attack temporarily deprived over 1,000 students of education due to damage to schools and widespread panic.
Ms. Samar Al-Hajj, Chairperson of the Arab Network, noted the ongoing Israeli aggression that has targeted various countries, including Qatar, represents systematic human rights violations. She emphasized the need for collective efforts to document and report these violations, advocate for international accountability, and strengthen international protection mechanisms.
Mr. Sultan bin Hassan Al Jamali, Secretary-General of the National Human Rights Committee, highlighted the meeting's recommendations. These include cooperation between national institutions to document violations, legal support for victims, and international advocacy. The meeting stressed the importance of leveraging the summit's outcomes to apply political and diplomatic pressure on Israel.
Mr. Issam Arouri, Chairman of the Independent Commission for Human Rights in Palestine, described the attack on Qatar as a violation of its sovereignty and an attempt to destabilize its role in regional peace efforts. The meeting underscored the need for international judicial bodies to expedite investigations and hold Israel accountable for its actions.
