Agriculture Minister Launches Nationwide Wheat Cultivation Plan

Cairo: Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk has unveiled a comprehensive plan to secure a successful wheat cultivation season, targeting the planting of at least 3.5 million feddans nationwide.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the minister released a statement on Saturday, 11/10/2025, directing ministry leadership, research centers, and agricultural directorates to maintain coordination and address obstacles faced by farmers to ensure the season's success.

Farouk emphasized increasing readiness across agricultural administrations and directed officials to support farmers throughout the season, from land preparation to harvest. He stressed the need for high-quality, certified, and disease-resistant seeds, which should be distributed at appropriate times and affordable prices. The minister also called for the dissemination of the crop's varietal map and emphasized farmer outreach for awareness.

The plan includes awareness and agricultural extension programs through field campaigns, demonstration plots, and training courses to provide farmers with accurate information and training in best practices. Farouk highlighted the use of modern farming techniques, such as laser land leveling and ridge planting, to increase yields and conserve water, and assured the availability of agricultural machinery across governorates.

Farouk reaffirmed farmers' roles as key partners in national development and Egypt's food security. He emphasized the state's commitment to supporting farmers with a comprehensive package, including the timely distribution of subsidized fertilizers through the "Farmer's Card" system. The minister also instructed the activation of operations rooms in all directorates to address complaints and challenges faced by farmers.
