ADSB unveils 92 metre Corvette design at LIMA 2023 in Malaysia

ABU DHABI,EDGE entity, ADSB, a leader in the design, new build, repair, maintenance, refit, and conversion of naval and commercial vessels, today announced the launch of a 92 metre Corvette, a fast and powerful vanguard vessel, which is designed by ADSB in the UAE.

The Abu Dhabi-based shipbuilder made the announcement at the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA 2023), being held in Malaysia until 27th May.

Designed, constructed, and equipped to perform a wide range of coastal missions, the dynamic multi-domain vessel features a helicopter deck and hangar, capacity for unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) operations, two rigid hull inflatable boats, various combat systems, electronic warfare (EW) systems, and a broad range of countermeasures.

With stealth features and ballistic protection, it delivers advanced surveillance and safeguarding capabilities across air, surface, and EW domains in the near-shore theatre.

Propelled by combined diesel and diesel (CODAD) engines, it achieves a top speed of 28 knots and an endurance of over 4,500nm at cruising speed.

Sheikh Zayed Chair launched in Kuala Lumpur to foster collaboration

KUALA LUMPUR, The Sheikh Zayed Chair, a dedicated research body at the Institute of Strategic and International Studies Malaysia (ISIS Malaysia) in Kuala Lumpur, was officially launched on Tuesday on the sidelines of the visit of H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, to Malaysia.

The launch ceremony was attended by Khalid Ghanim Mohammed Alghaith, the UAE Ambassador to Malaysia, and Prof. Dr. Mohd Faiz Abdullah, Chairman of the Institute of Strategic and International Studies Malaysia.

Notably, Mohammad Ahmad Mohammad Al Murr assumes the position of co-chair of the chair.

The Sheikh Zayed Chair aims to bridge the gap in knowledge and research between West Asia and Southeast Asia. Functioning as a dedicated research body, it will contribute to the development of policies and provide scientific recommendations to authorities, decision-makers, civil organisations, and youth in both regions.

Established in 1983, ISIS Malaysia operates as an independent research organisation that focuses on various areas, including foreign policy, security studies, economics, nation-building, social policy, technology, innovation, and environmental studies. In recent times, the institution has expanded its research scope to encompass critical subjects such as food security, digital economics, climate change, capacity building, and cybersecurity.

Furthermore, during Sheikh Khaled’s visit, it was agreed to establish the Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak Chair at the National Defence University of Malaysia. This initiative seeks to empower women and girls in peace, security, and peacekeeping missions at the United Nations. Additionally, it aims to strengthen the existing partnerships between the UAE and Malaysia.

Founded in 1995, the National Defence University of Malaysia stands as the country’s premier military institution, catering to the needs of the Malaysian Armed Forces.

Arada completes Boulevard, a 600-home residential complex at Sharjah’s Aljada

SHARJAH, Arada has completed 585 homes within The Boulevard, an upscale residential complex at its Sharjah mega-community Aljada. The nine-story blocks are located next to Aljada’s main East Boulevard avenue.

The Boulevard comprises three apartment blocks that include a wealth of amenities and are surrounded by lush green landscaping. Homes feature a range of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments with a variety of sizes and floorplans, which are targeted at singles, young couples, and families.

Ahmed Alkhoshaibi, Group CEO of Arada, said, “We are pleased to announce the timely completion of The Boulevard residential complex, which occupies an exceptional location within the Aljada master community. The Boulevard is located between the SABIS International School Aljada (SIS-Aljada), which is fully completed, and Naseej District, a new creative neighbourhood for Sharjah, which contains a world-class cultural centre and makers’ district. It lies on East Boulevard Avenue in the same residential phase as East Village, which features 2,000 units within 16 apartment blocks. Last month, Arada announced the completion of 1,621 apartments in East Village.

Also located within walking distance from The Boulevard complex are the Madar entertainment district and Arada CBD, a modern business district that will serve as the Emirate’s new commercial hub.

Spread over a 24 million square foot area, Aljada is Sharjah’s largest-ever project and a transformational destination for the Emirate. As well as its numerous residential districts, Aljada also contains extensive retail, hospitality, entertainment, sporting, educational, and healthcare components and a business park, all set within a green, walkable master plan.

7th Korean Film Festival 2023 in Abu Dhabi to celebrate companionship through films

ABU DHABI, The Embassy of the Republic of Korea and the Korean Cultural Centre (KCC) in the UAE have announced the highly anticipated 2023 Korean Film Festival, taking place from 8th to 11th June at Vox Cinema in Yas Mall, Abu Dhabi. This year’s festival themed ‘Companionship’ aims to showcase the power of friendship and the deep emotional resonance found in Korean cinema, according to a press release issued by the KCC.

The film festival will present a curated lineup of eight captivating Korean films that span various genres, each with its own unique story to tell. The festival will kick off with the opening film ‘Hunt,’ a thrilling action drama directed by LEE Jung Jae. The lineup features movies such as ‘Mission: Possible,’ a hilarious action-comedy directed by KIM Hyung-joo, and ‘The Night Owl,’ a thought-provoking drama directed by Ahn Tae-jin.

Other films to be screened include the animated adventure ‘Pororo and Friends: Virus Busters,’ the compelling drama ‘Confession,’ the action-packed comedy ‘Confidential Assignment 2: International,’ the touching documentary ‘Fanatic,’ and the thrilling science fiction action film ‘Alienoid Part 1,’ directed by CHOI Dong-hoon.
