Minister: Mokattam Corniche project’s revenues to pass EGP 60 billion

The giant project to develop Mokattam Corniche will generate revenues of more than ?EFP 60 billion, Minister of Public Business Sector Mahmoud Esmat said Saturday 18/03/2023.

The minister was addressing a signing ceremony of a contract with the “Foster + Partners” office – one of the world’s most important designer offices – to carry out the design and graphics work for the project, which is being implemented in collaboration between Al-Nasr Housing and Development Company of the Holding Company for Construction and Development and Scope International, a subsidiary of the Saudi Al-Suwailem Holding Group.

We welcome this collaboration because it fits within the ministry’s goal, which is aligned with the state ownership policy document, by assisting the private sector and allowing it to take its natural place in driving the national economy alongside the cooperative and government sectors, the minister said.

Defence Minister witnesses discussion of principal research of military research organization

Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and Minister of Defense and Military Production Mohamed Zaki witnessed the discussion of the principal research of the military research organization.

The research is held under the title of “The national strategy for the development of the comprehensive forces of the State in light of international and regional changes to maintain national security.”

The discussion was held in the presence of Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces Lt. General Osama Askar, Planning and Economic Development Minister Hala el Said along with a host of military top brass, strategic experts, media persons and presidents of public universities.

President of the military research organization Ihab Mohamed Fekry extended thanks to the General Command of the Armed Forces for its constant support and efforts to enhance the research sphere at the Armed Forces.

The research drew attention to numerous recommendations and proposed mechanisms to preserve national security in light of the rapid regional and international developments.

At the end of the event, the defense minister conveyed greetings of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to all attendees, emphasizing the importance of adopting the latest scientific methods in addressing challenges.

Egypt’s mission to UN to partake Tuesday in organizing event on refugees’ rights

Egypt’s Permanent Representative to the UN and other International Organizations Ambassador Ehab Gamaleldin along with missions from Bangladesh, Colombia, Philippines, and Nigeria are set to organize next Tuesday an event on the refugees’ rights.

The event will be held on the sidelines of the 52nd session of the Human Rights Council on the occasion marking the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).

The event will cast a spotlight on the refugees’ rights around the globe, as well as the necessity of promoting and protecting the human rights.

Environment Minister: Pact to be signed soon to establish first waste-to-energy plant

In agreement will be signed soon to establish the first waste-to-energy plant at a total cost worth dlrs 150 million, announced Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad.

The factory, which will rely on German technology, will be established first in Giza governorate, added the minister during an expanded meeting held with CEO of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) Hossam Heiba.

The meeting tackled ways of opening up new vistas of cooperation, especially in terms of investing in the environmental sector in Egypt.

During the meeting, Fouad also noted that six other sites have been chosen to set up waste-to-energy plants.

The minister, meanwhile, gave an overview of the detailed process of converting waste to energy, as well as the investment opportunities in such sphere.

For his part, Heiba said that the GAFI gives top priority to the environmental projects through launching promotion campaigns to encourage investment in such projects.

He further said that golden licenses are awarded to the eco-friendly companies.

He, meanwhile, said that the GAFI opened over the past week an eco-friendly industrial complex for household appliances.

Heiba also affirmed his unwavering support to the Environment Ministry in preparing the necessary feasibility studies for the new environmental projects in order to attain the State’s ultimate goal to realize sustainable economic growth at the environmental level.

Minister: Egypt gained no benefits from grain deal during Ukraine-Russia crisis

Supply and Internal Trade Minister Ali Moselhi said Egypt withdrew from the grain deal since Cairo has not got the desired benefits from the agreement during the Ukraine-Russia crisis.

Speaking on the sidelines of opening a fair of “Ahlan Ramadan”, he reiterated Saturday 18/03/2023 that the deal’s aim is to strike a balance in the markets, provide wheat needs of countries and control the trade balance for producers and consumers.

The deal, however, failed to realize these desired goals during the Ukraine-Russia crisis, so Egypt withdrew from it, he added.

Egypt, UAE sign maritime transport cooperation deals

The Ministry of Transport signed Saturday 18/03/2023 a number of important cooperation agreements with the Abu Dhabi Ports Group.

Transport Minister Kamel El Wazir and UAE Ambassador in Cairo Maryam al-Kaabi attended the inking ceremony at the ministry’s premises in the New Administrative Capital.

The deals included signing in initials a final contract to the management, operation, maintenance, and re-delivery of the superstructure of the Safaga Seaport Multi-Purpose Terminal (Safaga 2).

They also included the terms and conditions of some contracts to manage and operate platforms and terminals for cruise ships in Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada seaports, and operate a cruise line linking all ports along the Red Sea coastline.

They also signed a deal of the terms and conditions of some contracts to build, manage, operate, maintain, and redeliver the superstructure of a cruise ship passenger terminal, a vehicle terminal, and a bulk cargo terminal in Ain Sokhna seaport, and a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to manage, operate, maintain, and redeliver the superstructure of a multi-purpose terminal in East Port Said port.

Wazir stated that the contract for the management, operation, maintenance, and re-delivery of the superstructure of the Safaga Seaport Multi-Purpose Terminal (Safaga 2) paves the way for the implementation of a grand cooperation agreement between the ministry and Abu Dhabi Ports Groups to pursue a variety of logistics projects.

The two sides have also inked license contracts between the Suez Canal Economic Zone and Transcargo International, the owner and operator of a fleet of advanced stevedoring equipment used for the safe handling, loading, and offloading of cargo, for the establishment of cement silos at Al-Arish and West Port Said ports.

“These contracts and agreements were negotiated in response to President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s directions to broaden the scope of collaboration with the private sector at the regional and international levels, with the goal of transforming Egypt into a global trade and logistics hub,” Wazir said during the inking ceremony.
