1,000 competitors participate in Somabay Endurance Festival

Up to 1,000 competitors from 35 foreign countries are taking part in Somabay Endurance Festival in the Red Sea resort of Sharm El Sheikh.

In a statement on Friday 27/05/2022, Youth and Sports Minister Ashraf Sobhi hailed the large participation in sports tourism festivals and events organized in various governorates.

The Somabay Endurance Festival has become an annual sports tradition in Egypt, thanks to the efforts of the Trifactory and the sports community.

Returning for another year, the festival will offer competitions and activities suitable for athletes of all ages and abilities, from complete beginners to professional competitors.

The Spring Edition for 2022 features the list of classic multi-sport distances hosted by The Trifactory since 2014, including the Sprint, Supersprint, and Olympic distances.

Young athletes aged 5 to 8 and adults over 75 have their own race distances.

Health Ministry: 3 million children examined for hearing impairment

The Ministry of Health and Population on Saturday 28/05/2022 said a hearing survey has been conducted for 3,000,047 children as part of a presidential initiative for early detection and treatment of hearing loss and impairment for newborns.

The initiative was launched in September 2019.

Some 178,177 children would be re-examined, a week after the first screening at the same unit, Health Ministry Spokesman Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said.

Around 18,932 children were referred after the second test to 30 hospitals and referral centers nationwide for higher evaluation and the start of medical treatment or the installation of a hearing aid or the transfer of the child for cochlear implant in accordance to his/her condition, the spokesman added.

The number of examination centers were increased to cover 3,500 health units across all governorates to conduct audiological examinations for children from the day of birth to the age of 25 days, he added.

Environment, tourism ministers launch green development for tourism project

Environment Minister Yasmin Fouad and Tourism and Antiquities Minister Khaled El Anany launched on Saturday 28/05/2022 a project of green development for the tourism sector in the presence of Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Alessandro Fracassetti and a galaxy of ambassadors.

The project, the first of its kind in Egypt, aims to improve the performance and sustainability of the tourism sector in line with Egypt Vision 2030 and as part of Egypt’s preparations for the UN COP27, the Tourism and Antiquities Ministry said in a statement.

This project had been prepared by the Mainstream Biodiversity Into Tourism Development Project of the ministry, which is implemented through the Environmental Affairs Agency in cooperation with UNDP funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the presidential “Prepare for Green” initiative.

The guidelines manual to the best environmental practices in tourist restaurants was launched to be more sustainable and cost-effective, in addition to, the guideline for eco-lodges, which is the first step of its kind to organize the eco-tourism market in Egypt and increase investments in and outside nature reserves.

The green list campaign was also launched that aims to aims to increase tourists’ awareness of eco-hotels and tourist facilities bearing eco-labels.

Egypt reports average of daily coronavirus cases at 4

The Health Ministry said Saturday 28/05/2022 that the average of the daily new coronavirus cases stood at four during the past week, while deaths were registered at two.

In a statement, Spokesman for the Health Ministry Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said the daily average of recoveries recorded 16, bringing the total number of recoveries to 445,701.

The total number of vaccinated people hit 35,178,603.

Environment Minister stresses key role of development partners in developing solid waste management mechanism

Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad underlined that Egypt has taken major steps toward cooperation with development partners in solid waste management in line with directives of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

This falls within the framework of the growing international interest in the climate change file, she said, referring to the painstaking efforts exerted by Egypt in this regard.

She noted that Egypt launched its 2050 national strategy for climate change which linked curbing greenhouse gas emissions to sound and safe management of waste.

The ministry’s national program for solid waste management held a series of meetings with the KfW Development Bank.

The meetings tackled the national program’s current and future action plans and following up infrastructure projects in the program’s targeted governorates.

The KFW delegation hailed the progress realized in the program and stressed continued support for developing waste recycling systems in these governorates.

Meanwhile, Fouad underlined the role of development partners and international financial agencies in supporting the development of solid waste management mechanism.

Egypt’ agricultural exports exceed 3 million tons this year

Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation el Sayyed el Quseir asserted on Saturday 28/05/2022 that Egypt’s agricultural exports exceeded three million tons this year.

That came in a report Quseir had received from Chairman of the Central Administration of Plant Quarantine Ahmed el Attar about the volume of agricultural exports during the period between January 1 and May 25, 2022.

The exports reached 3,115,312 tons of agricultural products, according to the report.

Quseir thanked Egyptian exporters and commended efforts exerted by the plant quarantine, Agriculture Export Council, commercial representative offices and Egyptian embassies abroad to remove any obstacles to the flow of agricultural exports and to tap new markets.

PM meets senior UAE investors

Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli asserted the Egyptian State seeks to lure more foreign investments and increase contributions of the Private Sector.

Madbouli affirmed projects, which were carried out by the State over the past five years, represent necessary giant investments.

The State was capable of fulfilling such projects in record time and has been acting to set the stage for encouraging investors to do business in all fields, the premier said during a meeting with a number of heavyweight UAE investors at the start of his visit to UAE Saturday 28/05/2022.

The meeting discussed ways of helping businessmen stand on various investment opportunities in Egypt in order to pump more investments in the period to come.

Madbouli is leading a high-level ministerial delegation, which includes senior officials as well.

Madbouli pointed out the meeting emanates from the Egyptian government’s keenness on boosting the presence of several UAE companies working in different domains in Egypt.

The government is acting to expand investments in domains of priority to Egypt, in the shadow of repercussions posed by the current global crisis for the region at large, according to him.

Madbouli talked about economic reform measures adopted by the Egyptian State in 2016.

Such reforms aim at reducing challenges facing investments in Egypt, he added.

Madbouli affirmed efforts are focused on certain sectors, topped by the industry sector.

He added his visit to UAE is aiming to lay down a three-way strategy bringing together Egypt, UAE and Jordan in order to achieve integration in industry file.
