Minister of Transportation Kamel el-Wazir on Saturday paid an inspection tour of the signal towers currently being established under a project to develop signalling systems at the Cairo-Alexandria railway line with a length of 208 km.

The project is being implemented by the Spanish Thales Group and is planned to gradually enter service by November.

Up to 16 out of 19 towers have been operated so far, the minister noted.

The project aims to replace the current electrical system with a modern electronic one and that will increase the number of train trips per day, and achieve the highest levels of safety and security, he added.
