Transport Minister Oversees MoU Signing for Borg El Arab Dry Port Project

Borg el arab: Minister of Transport Kamel el Wazir attended the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the Borg El Arab dry port and logistics zone project. The project involves the financing, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of the facility, which will span 133 feddans in Borg El Arab City.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the MoU was signed between the General Authority for Land and Dry Ports and Sky Ports Company. The signatories were Sayed Metwally, Chairman of the General Authority for Land and Dry Ports, and Tarek Hussein, Chairman of Sky Ports. The event was also attended by Deputy Transport Minister for Maritime Transport Nehad Shahin, Assistant Minister for Authorities and Companies Ashraf El-Lozy, and Assistant Minister for Maritime Transport Mohamed Fathy.

Minister Wazir highlighted that the agreement aligns with the Transport Ministry’s strategic plan to adhere to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s directives. These directives aim to establish Egypt as a regional hub for transport, logistics, and transit trade. The initiative forms part of a broader effort to establish 33 dry ports and logistics zones across the nation and to develop seven integrated logistics corridors connecting production areas with seaports, as well as linking Red Sea ports to Mediterranean ports.

The minister emphasized that these logistics corridors will support new urban communities through an extensive railway network, which includes both diesel and high-speed electric trains, in addition to the main road network. The Borg El Arab dry port and logistics zone is a critical element of the Cairo-Alexandria logistics corridor.

El-Wazir further noted that the MoU aims to enhance cooperation with international and local private sectors, reflecting presidential directives. The project site will support the industrial zone in Borg El Arab, facilitate trade, and aid in the movement of exports and imports. Additionally, it aims to reduce congestion at seaports, improve logistics services quality, and lower cargo transportation costs.
