Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty praised the depth of Egyptian-British relations during an expanded meeting held Tuesday, May 19, 2026, with a number of British officials and parliamentarians.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting included British Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Middle East, Afghanistan and Pakistan Hamish Falconer, MP Mark Pritchard and President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Odile Renaud-Basso to discuss ways of enhancing bilateral relations and exchange views on regional and international developments.

Abdelatty stressed the importance of continuing to develop all aspects of bilateral cooperation and boosting British investments in Egypt in a way that serves the mutual interests of the two friendly countries, Foreign Ministry spokesman Tamim Khallaf said.

He also underlined the importance of strengthening economic, investment and trade ties through preparations for holding an investment and business conference aimed at opening new avenues for cooperation and supporting the economic partnership between the two sides.

The spokesman added that Abdelatty reviewed Egypt's ongoing efforts to attract foreign investments and highlighted the promising investment opportunities offered by the Egyptian market across various sectors. He also pointed to the resilience of the Egyptian economy in confronting regional and international challenges despite the broad repercussions of regional tensions on the global economy, energy markets and supply chains.

Abdelatty further emphasized the importance of strengthening relations with both chambers of the British Parliament - the House of Commons and the House of Lords - in light of Egypt's pivotal role in supporting security and stability in the Middle East and its efforts to contain regional crises and promote political and diplomatic solutions.

During the meeting, the foreign minister reviewed Egypt's active role in addressing threats and challenges facing the region, particularly developments in the US-Iran negotiations, the Palestinian issue and the situations in Sudan and Lebanon.

The meeting featured an interactive discussion during which participants exchanged assessments and views on regional and international issues and stressed the importance of coordinated efforts to de-escalate tensions and achieve regional and international security and stability.
