Saudi, US announce Sudan commitment declaration to protect civilians in Sudan

Saudi Arabia and the US Friday announced that representatives of the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces had signed Thursday in Jeddah a declaration of commitment to protect civilians in Sudan. The declaration obliges the conflicting parties in Sudan under international humanitarian law and human rights law to promote humanitarian action to meet the needs of civilians. The declaration would urge its signatories to enable the safe delivery of humanitarian aid, restore “basic” services, withdraw forces from hospitals and clinics and allow the dead to be buried, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA). The ensuing Jeddah talks would focus on reaching an agreement on an “effective” ceasefire for up to ten days to implement the declaration’s commitments.
