El dabaa: Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat witnessed the arrival ceremony of the reactor pressure vessel for the second nuclear unit at the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant. The event took place at the El Dabaa specialized seaport as part of the ongoing preparations for the installation of key strategic components later this year.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the Electricity Ministry stated that the minister's visit was part of a field tour to monitor the progress of the nuclear plant's implementation and preparations for receiving nuclear equipment, consistent with the project's timeline. During the visit, Esmat engaged with Egyptian and Russian work teams, including Sherif Helmy and officials from both nations.
Helmy provided updates on the project's implementation, operational preparations, and training programs for operating crews, emphasizing the commitment to the project's scheduled timeline. Esmat discussed coordination strategies with the project teams, highlighting nuclear energy's role in fulfilling Egypt Vision 2030 and sustainable development goals as part of the state's peaceful nuclear energy program.
Esmat noted Egypt's aim to increase renewable and clean energy to 45 percent of the energy mix by 2028. The minister reviewed construction progress at the nuclear units, fresh nuclear fuel storage building, and training programs, commending the cooperation between Egyptian and Russian teams as a model of strategic partnership.
He emphasized the reactor pressure vessel's significance in ensuring the plant's operational safety and reliability. The visit also included an assessment of procedures for handling and transporting heavy equipment, adhering to safety and quality standards.
The minister reiterated that the El Dabaa nuclear power project is crucial to Egypt's national energy strategy, focusing on clean energy generation, reducing fossil fuel dependence, and enhancing the national power grid's stability. Esmat highlighted the state's commitment to peaceful nuclear energy applications and advanced technologies as part of sustainable development plans.
