President Abdel Fattah El Sisi orders expansion of social protection programs

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has issued directives to widen the scope of social protection programs in light of the current global economic crisis.

The president gave the instructions on Tuesday26/7/2022 at a meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli, Supply Minister Ali el Moselhi, Finance Minister Mohamed Maait, Social Solidarity Minister Nivine El Kabbag and Interior Minister Mahmoud Tawfiq.

The president ordered adding one million families to the Takaful and Karama cash-support program and paying nearly one billion pounds a month in aid to the needy families, pensioners and public servants for the next six months, Presidential Spokesman Bassam Rady said.

He also directed the Finance Ministry to provide 11 billion pounds to offer subsidized food boxes and meat of sacrificed animals for the poor families.

Kabbag, meanwhile, said that 500 billion pounds have been secured in the budget of the current fiscal year to support social protection programs.

The president also followed up on efforts exerted to secure sufficient stockpiles of strategic commodities with the supply minister affirming that Egypt’s stock of strategic commodities is sufficient for seven months despite the fallout from COVID-19 pandemic and the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.
