Modern world mainly faces moral crisis – Azhar Imam

Al Azhar Grand Imam Ahmed el Tayyeb on Friday described an extraordinary meeting bringing together members of the Muslim Council of Elders and leaders of the Catholic Church, under Pope Francis, in Manama as “a positive step in the interfaith dialogue journey that the two sides have embarked upon together.”

The dialogue has already borne fruit in raising collective awareness to respond to challenges, he said during the meeting.

Without exaggeration, the crisis of the modern world is mainly a moral crisis and a faith crisis (atheism), the Grand Imam said.

Today, the majority of troubles and issues facing mankind are the inevitable consequences of this crisis, he added.

It is no surprise to observe the effects of this moral deviation, he said.
