Ministries of petroleum, environment discuss organizing event on reducing carbon emission in COP 27

Minister of Petroleum Tarek el Mulla announced, on Tuesday 26/7/2022, organizing an event on “reducing carbon emission” during UN Climate Change Conference 2022 (COP 27) due in Sharm el Sheikh in November in coordination with the Ministry of Environment to shed light on the policies and initiatives adopted by the companies working in the industry of oil and gas in Egypt to curb carbon emissions within the framework of their contribution to achieve sustainable development and support global efforts to face climate change.

This came during Mulla’s meeting with Minister of Environment Yasmin Fouad to discuss preparations done for hosting COP 27 and stand on the efforts of the joint work teams from the ministries of petroleum and environment to organize a number of activities related to environmental sustainability, reducing carbon emission in sectors of energy, petroleum and gas.

In a statement, Mulla said that the event will include reviewing the international technological companies that help reaching the best results and reviewing the best practices and examples applied to reduce carbon emission.

He asserted that Egypt’s international partners in the industry of petroleum and gas are excited about their participation in the event to present their efforts and plans with this respect.

Meanwhile, Fouad discussed the measures taken for good preparation for the event and the missions of the Petroleum Ministry in the coming period to determine issues to be discussed on the day.

She said that the climate conference is comprehensive and will be attended by all segments.

She proposed organizing a round-table meeting early in September to launch a dialogue on the most important axes to be discussed during the event on “reducing carbon emission” due in COP 27.
