Kabbag: Red Crescent reflects societies’ needs

Social Solidarity Minister Nivine el Kabbag, who doubles as vice-president of the Egyptian Red Crescent, said the Egyptian Red Crescent is a beacon of hope and a platform of cooperation to fulfill the society’s needs during times of emergencies and crises.

The Red Crescent has the basic elements needed for introducing and supporting sustainable change in local communities through a large-scale network of volunteers and expanded partnerships.

It contributes to creating a resilient community capable of confronting life challenges in a rapidly-changing world, she said.

She made the remarks on Saturday during the opening of the first partnership conference of the Red Crescent which was attended by a number of ambassadors, representatives of international organizations and associations and members of the Red Crescent board.

She said the conference coincides with the Red Crescent’s centennial.

She added that social protection comes at the top of the state’s priorities, noting that just and sustainable development lies at the core Egypt’s policy.

She added that this goes in line with Egypt Vision 2030, noting that the Red Crescent has contributed to several activities aiming at improving the living conditions of people.

She noted that Egyptian Red Crescent volunteers have over the past year offered humanitarian assistance for about three million people in various world countries, including Palestine, Yemen, Lebanon, Somalia, Djibouti, Ukraine, Afghanistan and Syria.

The Egyptian Red Crescent adopts a new strategy for managing crises and using early warning systems in addition to investing in building human capacities, she said, noting that this is not only for Egyptians, but also for those living in Egypt from various nationalities.

She referred to the various healthcare services offered, including vaccination, in addition to psychological and social support.

As for supporting those affected by consecutive economic crises, she referred to launching initiatives for economic empowerment, entrepreneurship in addition to training volunteers in first aid.

She added that the Red Crescent works on promoting social responsibility among young people and volunteers.

She noted that institutional development remains the main catalyst for ensuring quality and sustainability.

She concluded that good financing during the COVID-19 crisis led to reaching out to the largest number of the most needy people and contributed to generating more sustainable local solutions.
