Gov’t denies claims on Egypt’s suffering from strategic commodities shortage

The Cabinet Media Center has dismissed as groundless reports that Egypt is suffering from a shortage of strategic commodities in markets and supply outlets nationwide due to the global economic crisis.

In a statement Friday, the media center said it contacted with Supply and Internal Trade Ministry, which totally denied these reports, asserting that they are baseless and bare of truth.

The ministry underlined that all commodities are available in all markets nationwide, adding that reserves of staple and strategic commodities are at a safe level and sufficient for more than six months, added the statement.

The ministry, meanwhile, affirmed that it launches periodic inspection campaigns on all markets, to prevent any manipulation or monopolistic practices.

The center urged all media outlets to seek accuracy and objectivity before publishing news, advising them to contact bodies concerned so as to avoid sparking confusion among the public.

The center also called for reporting any rumour or misinformation on WhatsApp numbers (01155508688 -01155508851) or email ([email protected]).
