FM leaves for Denmark for Copenhagen Climate Ministerial

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry left Cairo Sunday, heading for the Danish Capital, Copenhagen, to participate in the Climate Ministerial.

The Copenhagen Climate Ministerial will be held on March 20-21 as the first political high-level meeting following up on the 2022 UN climate conference, COP27.

The current and incoming COP presidencies of Egypt and the United Arab Emirates are co-chairing the meeting in the Danish capital together with Denmark, Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid said in a statement.

The ministerial meeting aims to lay the path to a successful COP28 delivering on the Paris agreement targets and the COP27 conclusions.

Before leaving Cairo, Shoukry said the Copenhagen Climate Ministerial represents an opportune occasion, being the first high-level climate forum since COP27 in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, to reflect and take stock of the instrumental breakthroughs as well as key achievements and progress that came out of the “implementation COP” and outlined at the Sharm El Sheikh Implementation Plan.

COP27 was billed as the ‘implementation COP’ because its slogan was “Together for implementation”.
