Egypt recovers “goddess Isis” statue from Switzerland

The Foreign Ministry announced that Egyptian Ambassador to Switzerland Wael Gad received a bronze-made statue of the ancient Egyptian goddess Isis.

The statue which dates back to the Late Period of ancient Egypt, depicts goddess Isis while carrying her son Horus.

In a press statement released on Tuesday 27/9/2022, the ministry said the restoration of the ancient piece comes in light of the utmost importance that Egypt attaches to recovering smuggled Egyptian artifacts.

The move also falls within the framework of the existing cooperation and coordination between the Egyptian Embassy in Bern and the Federal Office of Culture, which assisted the embassy to bring back home seven ancient artifacts in August 2021, the ministry added.

In a related context, the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities asserted that the statue of the ancient Egyptian goddess Isis was restored after being smuggled abroad. The statue is due to arrive home as soon as possible.
