Egypt keen on entrenching int’l justice

Egypt Permeant Representative to the United Nations (UN) International Law Commission (ILC) ambassador Dr Hussein Hassouna said Egypt is keen on defending stands of developing countries and establishing an international system based on legal sovereignty and international justice.

In exclusive statements to MENA Sunday, ahead of his participation in the meetings of the Commission’s session to open at the UN Office in Geneva Monday, the ambassador said Egypt respects international law and abides by all UN charters and mechanisms in this respect.

He highlighted the Commission’s role in drawing up international agreements covering contemporary issues including climate change, fighting pandemics, crimes against humanity, in addition to protecting the environment.

Hassouna cited a number of agreements forged by the Commission over the past period, including agreements establishing a legal framework for all maritime activities, diplomatic ties, along with protecting individuals from armed clashes and responsibility of states for internationally wrongful acts.

Meantime, the ambassador referred to the Commission’s role in setting up international criminal courts for trial of those accused of committing war crimes and genocide acts.
