Egypt exerts strenuous efforts to abide by int’l measures on biodiversity

Environment Minister Yassmin Fouad asserted that Egypt is exerting strenuous efforts to abide by new international measures under the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the new Global Biodiversity Framework adopted at the Conference of Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity in Canada in 2022.

This came on Sunday during Fouad’s inauguration of a workshop on strategic planning of nature reserves and a second consultative session on the management of marine protected areas which are organized within the framework of an Environment Ministry-led project aimed at combining sustainable ecotourism with biological resource management.

Fouad said that success in achieving a new vision on managing natural protectorates requires drawing up effective national organizational, institutional and legal systems.

The workshop, which is attended by UNDP Resident Representative in Egypt Alessandro Fracassetti, addresses conservation efforts and tourism in threatened ecological communities in Egypt, modernizing nature reserves management and declaring a new marine protectorate in the Red Sea.
