Egypt, Australia discuss cooperation in files of biodiversity, water management

Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad met Friday with her Australian counterpart Tanya Plibersek.

 

The meeting mulled ways of boosting bilateral cooperation with regard to the issues of biodiversity conservation, adaptation to the impact of climate change, water management, and the technology for producing alternatives to single-use plastic bags, in addition to supporting the climate action agenda ahead of the Egypt-hosted COP27.

 

Egypt has always been keen on completing its national steps to address the impact of climate change, as it launched the National Climate Change Strategy 2050, the minister said, adding that Egypt also updated its soon-to-be-announced national contribution strategy and issued a package of green economic incentives in top-priority fields, namely renewable energy, green hydrogen, electric transport, waste management and alternatives to single-use plastic bags.

 

In turn, the Australian minister said that her country is looking forward to sharing the experiments of national universities in developing the technologies of renewable energy, green hydrogen, and circular economy approach.

 

Australia is also ready to cooperate with Egypt in the conservation of coral reefs, she added.
