The Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding (CCCPA) organized Saturday a webinar tiled: “30 years since the adoption of the 1992-2022 Agenda for Peace : From a peace agenda to a new peace agenda.”
The virtual event was held as part of the preparations under way for the 3rd edition of the Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development, set to take place on June 21-22 under the theme: “Africa in an Era of Cascading Risks and Climate Vulnerability: Pathways for a Peaceful, Resilient and Sustainable Continent.”
Ever since its first edition, the Aswan forum has been focusing on exploring ways to implement frameworks for preventing disputes and promote peace through active partnerships, Director of the CCCPA Ahmed Nihad Abdel-Latif said that in his remarks to the webinar.
Meanwhile, Egypt’s Permanent Representative of Egypt to the UN in New York Osama Abdekhalek has showcased Egypt’s longstanding contributions to the UN efforts for establishing peace and security and dispute settlement, ever since the launch of the 1992 Agenda for Peace, according to a statement published on the official Facebook page of the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.
The 3rd edition of Aswan Forum will address a number of Africa’s priorities, including enhancing cooperation to combat terrorism, overcoming the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, achieving food security, and advancing post-conflict reconstruction and development efforts; reflecting Egypt’s keenness to advance the African cooperation agenda at a critical juncture in international relations.
This year’s edition has special significance as it will be building up to the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP27) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), to be hosted by Egypt in November 2022. Accordingly, it will place emphasis on examining the impacts of climate change on sustainable peace and development efforts in Africa.
