CAPMAS: 85.4% increase in number of tourists during 1st half of 2022

Egypt’s Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) said on Tuesday27/9/2022 that the number of arriving tourists from all over the world reached 4.9 million tourists during the first half of 2022 compared with 2.6 million tourists in the same period of the previous year.

CAPMAS statement released on Tuesday27/9/2022 comes in conjunction with the World Tourism Day celebrations, which have been held on 27 September each year since 1980.

The day marks the adoption of the World Tourism Organization (WTO) in 1970. It was observed for the first time in 1980.

The day aims to enhance awareness among the international community of the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political, and economic values of the international community. The celebration theme of this year is “Rethinking Tourism”.

According to CAPMAS, the number of arriving tourists from all over the world reached 4.9 million tourists during the first half of 2022, compared to 2.6 million tourists during the first half of 2021, with an increase of 85.4%.

Moreover, the recent statistics conducted by CAPMAS showed that the number of arriving tourists from all over the world reached 8.0 million tourists in 2021 compared to 3.7 million tourists in 2020, with an increase of 117.5 %.

CAPMAS also noted that Eastern Europe recorded the first area for sending tourists during 2021 with 50.6%, followed by the Middle East with 18.9 %, then came Western Europe with 16.4 %, and Africa with 7.1 %.

The total number of arriving Arab tourists from Arab countries reached 2.0 million tourists in 2021 compared to 0.9 million tourists in 2020, with an increase of 114.9 %, said CAPMAS.

The number of nights spent by departing tourists reached 52.6 million nights during the first half of 2022 (January- June) compared to 32.2 million nights during the same period of 2021 (January- June), with an increase of 63.6%.
