Shoukry: Talks with Lavrov focused on upgrading Egyptian-Russian relations

Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said his talks with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov focused on a common goal of developing the two countries’ relations at all levels for the best interests of the two peoples and achieving economic growth.

At a joint conference with Lavrov after their session of talks, Shoukry voiced happiness over his negotiations with the Russian foreign minister which extended for more than two hours.

Talks covered bilateral relations, Shoukry said, noting that the volume of trade exchange between the two countries is growing and it is important to maintain and expand such exchange of commodities.

Shoukry also noted that talks covered the regional and international conditions of joint interest, asserting that Egypt, along with the whole international community, are deeply willing to see an end to military confrontations with Ukraine.

As regards the Arab region, the Egyptian top diplomat said talks covered the latest developments in the Palestinian territories and the importance of reaching a cool-off for tensions between the Israeli and Palestinians sides, pressing the need for working out a political solution based on the two-state solution and establishment of a Palestinian state on the 1967th borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

He also pressed the need for intensifying international efforts and urged the international community to assume its responsibilities in accordance with the international terms of reference to reach a final solution to the conflict that preserves the legitimate rights of the Palestinians.

Transport min. witnesses inking contract to establish maintenance workshop for Russian train locomotives in Abu Zaabal

Transport Minister Kamel el Wazir witnessed Tuesday the inking of a contract to establish a workshop for the maintenance of all kinds of Russian locomotives in Egypt at Abu Zaabal workshops for railways between the Egyptian National Railways and Transmashholding International AG.

Wazir asserted that the contract aims at establishing a new workshop in Abu Zaabal workshops area in cooperation with Transmashholding which will prepare the designs of the workshop and will supply the equipment needed for it.

He asserted the importance of this contract to conduct the necessary maintenance for the deal of 1,350 locomotives that was inked by the Egyptian National Railways.

The company’s maintenance of the locomotives will contribute to presenting the highest levels of service to the passengers within the framework of the plan of the ministry to cooperate with international companies supplying the locomotives.

Petroleum min. and Australian amb. discuss cooperation in mining and gas domains

Petroleum Minister Tarek El-Molla discussed with Australian Ambassador in Cairo Glenn Miles means to enhance bilateral cooperation in the mining, gas and green energy domains.

In statements on Tuesday 31/01/2023, the minister said that they reviewed available investment opportunities in mineral wealth in Egypt and the country’s growing role as an exporter of natural gas.

The increasing credibility of the petroleum sector boosts confidence of international oil companies, giving positive signals that it respects its contracts with foreign partners, the minister further noted.

There are great opportunities for exchanging expertise between the two sides in the field of mining, he added.

The minister reviewed developments related to the mining sector in Egypt in recent years in light of the significant reforms that were introduced with the aim to create a conducive climate for investors.

He went on to say that this matter helped attract 10 new international and Egyptian companies to invest in gold and mineral explorations through successful international bids.

The Australian ambassador said that his country looks forward to cooperating with Egypt in the gas, mining and hydrogen domains, underlining that Australian companies seek to get acquainted with investment opportunities in these fields in the country.

The meeting took up the participation of Australia’s BHP Petroleum, which recently merged with Woodside Energy, along with Chevron Corporation in its concession areas in the Mediterranean Sea in Egypt.

Agriculture min. asserts strength of Egyptian-Brazilian ties in agricultural field

Minister of Agriculture El-Sayed El-Quseir asserted the strength of ties binding Egypt and Brazil at the different levels in addition to the joint fields of cooperation topped by the agricultural domain.

This came during El-Quseir’s meeting with Brazilian Ambassador to Egypt Antonio de Aguiar to discuss means of boosting agricultural cooperation.

El-Quseir said the meeting tackled means to increase opportunities of trade exchange between Egypt and Brazil, adding that the Egyptian agricultural exports have good reputation and new markets were opened for them abroad especially that of citrus, strawberry and mango in addition to other products.

El-Quseir pointed out to the possibility of expanding cooperation in the field of producing seeds.

He also pointed out to expanding the cooperation activities to include cooperation in the field of planting sugarcane via seedlings and benefiting from Brazil in this field via sending Brazilian experts to Egypt.

Meanwhile, de Aguiar asserted that the volume of trade between Egypt and Brazil was upped over the recent period, pointing out to the joint challenges and inked cooperation agreements between both countries.

Egypt keen to support Arab youth: Youth min.

Egypt is keen on supporting the Arab youth and hosting them in the various programs and joint Arab projects, said Youth and Sports Minister Ashraf Sobhi.

This year will be full of Arab youth events in Egypt as part of the Arab Youth Year’s activities, said Sobhi, who is also the president of the executive office of the Council of Arab Ministers for Youth and Sports, during his meeting Tuesday with Assistant Secretary General, Head of the Social Affairs Sector at the Arab League Haifa Abu Ghazaleh.

The meeting was held to discuss the ongoing preparations regarding the programs and activities that will be implemented during the current year as part of the proceedings of the 2023 Arab youth year, which was launched by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

The meeting also tackled preparations for the 46th Council of Arab Ministers for Youth and Sports, which will be hosted by Saudi Arabia in March.

In press statements, Sobhi lauded the constructive cooperation between the Arab youth and sports ministers and their drive to promote cooperation among the Arab countries through implementing joint youth and sports projects throughout the year.

Sobhi stressed the need of drawing up a mechanism to promote the Arab activities to provide the necessary support for them.

Sisi signs amendments to police authority law

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Monday 30/1/2023 endorsed amendments to some provisions of Law No.109 of 1971 on the police authority.

The amended law was published in the official gazette.
