President El-Sisi Arrives in UAE to Participate in Abu Dhabi Summit

This morning, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi arrived in the United Arab Emirates to participate in a summit being held in Abu Dhabi that brings together the leaders of Egypt, Jordan and the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council.

The Spokesman for the Egyptian Presidency stated that the President’s participation in this summit reflects Egypt’s keenness to strengthen and develop distinguished relations with all brotherly countries participating in the summit. As this summit aims to ensure coordination and consultation on regional and international security and stability, Egypt is keen to strengthen mechanisms of joint action for the benefit of the Arab peoples.

Interior min meets with APSF president

Interior Minister Mahmoud Tawfik met on Tuesday 17/1/2023 with President of the Arab Police Sport Federation (APSF) Khaled bin Hamad al Attiyah and his accompanying delegation which comprised members of the executive office of the federation.

Attiyah thanked the Egyptian Interior Ministry for hosting the meetings of APSF’s general assembly and executive office in Cairo, lauding its continuous keenness on providing support to all the activities of the federation.

He reviewed the future vision of the APSF which aims at benefiting from the successful police athletic activities, exchanging expertise and organizing competitions.

Meanwhile, Tawfik lauded the efforts exerted by the APSF to maintain communication among the Arab brethren in all the police sports federations, pointing out to the importance of benefiting from the sports activities organized by the federation to boost the abilities of the Arab police sports cadres.

Emigration min:We are keen on cooperating with EU

Minister of State for Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates’ Affairs Soha Gendi asserted on Wednesday 18/1/2023 keenness on cooperating with the EU in a number of files concerned with emigration.

Gendi’s remarks came during talks with EU Ambassador to Egypt Christian Berger and head of coordination of the EU delegation Sophie Vanhaeverbeke that aimed at boosting ways of cooperation and exchanging experiences in several fields, with special focus on emigration file, according to a statement by the ministry on Wednesday 18/1/2023.

During the talks, Gendi commended deep-rooted and profound relations binding Egypt and the EU on all fronts, given Egypt is hosting communities from several European countries, it said.

She hailed active participation of the EU in climate change summit in Sharm El Sheikh last November, added the statement.

In turn, Berger hailed Egypt’s greater success in organizing the climate gathering in Sharm El Sheikh and its recommendations.

Davos initiative to scale up climate finance builds on directions set at COP27: Mashat

Egypt’s Minister of International Cooperation Rania el Mashat said climate change is a global challenge that requires consolidating efforts and promoting commitment to climate action, as well as making the best use of available resources to finance the green transition.

Mashat was speaking during a session, held as part of the World Economic Forum (Davos 2023), to launch an initiative to encourage partnerships between non-profit organizations and the private as well as government sectors to scale up private finance.

To achieve the goals of the UN Climate Change Conference, developed nations must deliver on their climate finance commitments, the minister said, adding that “this call to action is extremely timely, as it builds on the directions set during COP27 in Sharm El-Sheikh, ‘the COP of implementation’ under the Egyptian presidency.”

“We need more philanthropies to join us at the table and help scale up multilateral development bank finance to unlock private investments to accelerate the green transition,” Mashat said.

“Egypt will work closely with the World Economic Forum to build effective and impactful philanthropic public private partnerships, and promote the role of the prominent ‘P’ – Philanthropy.” she added.

During the event, Mashat touched upon the Sharm El-Sheikh Guidebook for Just Financing, which brings the idea of ‘Justice’ to climate finance to move from pledges to implementation.

The Guidebook emphasizes the need to scale-up investments towards climate adaptation and mitigation projects, while highlighting the importance of improved access to quality and quantity climate financing that leaves no one behind through a variety of mechanisms and tools to promote just financing.

The session tackled the role of philanthropies in stimulating climate action, and how the government and private sector could benefit from the tools and resources of the non-profit institutions to close a financing gap that has soared to up to $100 trillion in the wake of COVID-19 and other urgent global challenges.

Gov’t denies claims on absence of some food commodities from markets

The Cabinet media center denied reports claiming that some food commodities are not available at markets.

In a statement on Tuesday17/1/2023, the media center said it has contacted the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade which denied such reports and termed them as baseless.

The ministry underlined that all commodities are available in all markets nationwide, adding that reserves of staple and strategic commodities are at the safe level for several upcoming months.

The ministry said campaigns have been launched to ensure that all basic commodities are provided to citizens along with checking on avoiding the storing of commodities at any warehouses or banning any manipulation in prices.

The center called on social media users to verify the authenticity of the news circulated to avoid perplexing public opinion, urging citizens to file complains at the consumers’ protection authority to report any violations on hotline 19588.

PM witnesses signing ceremony of two pacts in electricity, renewable energy sector

Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli witnessed Wednesday the signing ceremony of two agreements to provide consulting services in the sector of electricity and new and renewable energy.

The agreements were inked between the Egyptian Electricity Transmission (EETC) and Belgian’s Elia Grid International, in the presence of Electricity and Energy Minister Mohamed Shaker.

Following the signing ceremony, the electricity minister said that the first agreement includes reviewing the dynamic review of the unified electricity network, in light of the mega expansions made in the network over the past eight years.

The agreement also includes preparations for the future electricity linkage projects with the neighboring countries and the European Continent, added the minister.

The second agreement is related to providing consulting services related to reviewing the needs of the unified network to cope with the renewable energy related to the green hydrogen projects.

The signing of the two agreements, along with 23 local and international consortiums, comes in line with Egypt’s main goal to reach 42 percent of the contribution of renewable energy in the nation’s energy mix by 2035, said the minister.

Planning minister, Saudi economic minister discuss bilateral cooperation

Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala el-Said discussed during a meeting on Wednesday 18/1/2023 with Saudi Minister of Economy and Planning Faisal bin Fadhil Alibrahim ways of boosting bilateral cooperation on the sidelines of her participation in the 53rd World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos.

A statement issued by the ministry lauded strong ties binding the two countries, asserting Egypt’s keenness on promoting Egypt-Saudi ties in the various domains.

The two sides tackled the importance of exchanging expertise in a number of fields, along with strengthening bilateral cooperation, especially amid the current economic crisis gripping the world, the statement said.

Conference of Arab Federation of Transport Workers starts activities

Damascus Countryside, SANA- The 5th Session of the Conference of Arab Federation of Transport Workers started activities on Wednesday with the participation of Syria, Egypt, Lebanon, Sudan, Yemen, Palestine, Iraq, Bahrain and Kuwait, according to SANA reporter.

The Conference is being held at the building of the Arab Institute for Labor Studies in Damascus Countryside.

During the conference, a report was given on the activity of the General Secretariat of the Arab Transport Workers Union in the next stage and its plan aimed at strengthening the bonds of Arab cooperation and integration in the land, sea, air and railway transport sectors and developing them in the Arab region, strengthening the union’s capabilities to meet the challenges of the next stage, and deepening strategic cooperation between organizations. members, and to confront attempts aimed at causing strife and problems among the people of the same nation.

Participants in the conference proposed the formation of working groups from the member organizations, each of which is specialized in specific technical issues, whose mission is to discuss ways to develop the transport sector, coordination and cooperation between relevant institutes and training centers, exchange information and data in the field of all transport sectors, and learn about developments and results of the organizations’ meetings. And regional and international federations specialized in transport sectors of all kinds.
