Health minister orders preparing study to establish psychiatric and addiction recovery center

Health and Population Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar issued directives to prepare an integrated study to establish a large-scale center for psychiatric and addiction recovery for the underprivileged people.

The move comes in line with the ministry’s strategy to improve and invest in health care for citizens, added Abdel Ghaffar during his weekly virtual meeting held with the ministry’s leaderships along with heads of organizations and the ministry’s undersecretaries in the governorates.

The meeting was held to discuss challenges and difficulties besetting the ministry in order to ensure that best medical services are offered to the patients.

During the meeting, the minister was also briefed on the plan of action of mental health and addiction treatment for year 2023, which includes offering societal services, programs and health initiatives.

The meeting also tackled the plan related to establishing center of excellence to treat autism, said Health Ministry Spokesman Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, adding that as many as 20 centers are scheduled to be established nationwide within the span of five years.

Al Azhar denounces storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque by extremist Israeli official

Al Azhar has strongly condemned the “barbaric behavior” committed by an extremist Israeli official when he stormed Al-Aqsa Mosque under the protection of Israeli occupation forces.

In a statement released on Tuesday 3/1/2023, Al Azhar stressed that these “provocative actions clearly reflect the barbarism of the Israeli occupation authority, and its attempt to impose a political reality by force of arms and change the historical identity of Al-Quds [East Jerusalem] and Al-Aqsa Mosque”.

The world’s top Sunni Muslim institution called on the international community to take decisive stances to stop Israel’s continued crimes, and protect religious sanctities and sacred places in Jerusalem and the entire occupied Palestinian territories.

Awqaf Minister, S. Sinai Governor discuss preparations for Ramadan

Awqaf Minister Mohamed Mokhtar Gomaa and South Sinai Governor Khaled Fouda discussed on Tuesday 3/1/2023 preparations for the holy month of Ramadan in the governorate.

During the meeting at the Supreme Council For Islamic Affairs in Cairo, the two officials agreed on opening six new mosques by Ramadan.

They also agreed on holding religious competitions for South Sinai’s residents.

7-year-old Egyptian student wins 1st place in UNESCO’s mental arithmetic competition

Minister of Education and Technical Education Reda Hegazy honored on Sunday 1/1/2023 Grade 2 Student Omar Zaki after his win of the first place in the mental arithmetic competition held by UNESCO in Taiwan and that comprised 100 contestants.

Zaki, 7, is resident of Mansoura city, which is the capital of Daqahliyah governorate, and student at a private school. The child had earned a scholarship to study a robotics course at Mansoura University’s School of Engineering given his sharp intelligence.

Egypt got re-elected in November as a member of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) after garnering 130 votes during Wednesday’s elections.

The UNESCO comprises 58 member-states with a four-year term of office for each.

In a statement, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said the re-election of Egypt for consecutive terms in the UNESCO is considered an international recognition of Egypt’s active role and position in the UN generally and the UNESCO specifically.

The ministry’s spokesman, Ahmed Hafez, said this win crowns efforts made by the ministry and Egyptian embassies and envoys to garner votes in favor of re-electing Egypt as UNESCO executive board member.
