President El-Sisi Follows-up on the Activities of the Suez Canal Authority

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met on Monday 2/1/2023 with Prime Minister, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, and Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA), Admiral Osama Rabie.

The Spokesman for the Presidency said the meeting followed-up on the activities of the Suez Canal Authority.

President El-Sisi gave directives to proceed with the implementation of the development strategy of the Suez Canal, in order to consolidate its unparalleled position as a waterway on which the world trade movement depends, and as one of the supportive factors of the national economy.

Admiral Rabie briefed the President on the indicators of global navigation traffic in the Suez Canal during the past three years.

He reported that the number of ships transiting in 2020 reached about 18,830 ships, increasing in 2021 to 20,694 ships, and totaling around 23,583 ships in 2022. This resulted in record return for the canal by the end of last year with about $8 billion, an increase of 25% over 2021. This is due to the digging of the new Suez Canal and ongoing efforts to continue the stages of the canal’s development strategy, which reflected on an increase in its total capacity.

The Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority offered an overview of the authority’s efforts to upgrade its naval fleet and its multi-functional tugboats, some of which are manufactured in partnership with foreign and local private sector expertise in the arsenals of Port Said, the south of Red Sea and Alexandria.

He also reviewed efforts to develop the southern sector of the canal’s navigational course, with a length of 40 km.

This includes the duplication of the canal and the widening and deepening of its navigational course, in order to improve navigation and international trade passing through the canal.

President El-Sisi Follows-up on the Localization of the Fishing Vessel Industry in Egypt

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met on 2/1/2023 with Prime Minister, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly; Minister of Local Development, Major-General Hisham Amna; Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA), Lieutenant-General Osama Rabie and CEO of the South Red Sea Shipyard (SRSS), Mr. Mostafa El-Degeishy.

The Spokesman for the Presidency said the meeting followed-up on efforts to localize the fishing vessel industry in Egypt.

President El-Sisi was briefed on progress in efforts to localize the modern fishing vessels industry.

The President gave directives to simultaneously integrate the construction process of these boats with the state’s efforts to upgrade natural lakes nationwide and with initiatives to support fishermen.

This shall double the fish production of these lakes, and hence support the economic conditions of fishermen, boost food security and the national economy, implement the state’s firm strategy of sound management, and leverage Egypt’s natural resources.

The meeting also discussed joint efforts with the private sector to localize the construction of modern yachts, and their maintenance, repair and construction centers, given Egypt’s potential in the field of marine tourism in the Mediterranean, the Red Sea and the Suez Canal Corridor, and capitalizing on Egypt’s unique geographic location and its modern ports along the republic’s coasts. This shall double the added value of the state in this field.

Egypt regrets Israeli official’s incursion into Aqsa mosque

Egypt has expressed regret over storming Al Aqsa Mosque by an official at the new Israeli government and extremist elements under the protection of Israeli forces.

A statement issued by the Foreign Ministry on Tuesday 3/1/2023 said that Egypt rejects any unilateral measures that run counter to the legal status of the holy places in Jerusalem.

The statement warned of the negative consequences of the incursion on the security and stability in the occupied lands and the Arab region.

It called on all parties to exercise self-restraint, shoulder responsibility and refrain from any measures that would inflame the situation.

Al Qabbag: Civil society saw quantum leap in light of political leadership’s support

Social Solidarity Minister Nevin Al Qabbag said on Tuesday 3/1/2023 that civil society witnessed a quantum leap in light of the political leadership’s support, lauding the partnership with human rights organizations.

Qabbag’s remarks came during her participation in the committee of social solidarity, family, and persons with disabilities of the House of Representatives’ celebration of the conclusion of meetings with heads of civil organizations.

The minister pointed to the close launch of the national strategy for volunteering, saying Egypt will have a comprehensive database for all volunteers and aspects of volunteering.
