Cairo: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi highlighted the critical importance of securing petroleum supplies to ensure the uninterrupted operation of power stations. He underscored the necessity of increasing the share of new and renewable energy within Egypt’s national energy mix.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Sisi called for intensifying efforts to attract further investments into the energy sector. This move aims to achieve strategic goals and enhance the sector’s role in driving national development. He urged the acceleration of ongoing renewable energy projects to diversify energy sources and advance the localization of industries related to this vital sector.
The discussions took place during a meeting with Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi, and Executive Director of the ‘Future of Egypt’ Sustainable Development Authority Bahaa el Ghannam. Presidential Spokesman Mohamed el Shennawy reported that the meeting reviewed joint efforts between the ministries of electricity, renewable energy, and petroleum resources, along with the ‘Future of Egypt’ Authority, particularly in providing electric power to new agricultural projects, such as the “New Delta” project.
The meeting also addressed updates on constructing electrical substations for agricultural reclamation zones, aligning with state efforts to bolster food security. Coordination between the ministries to secure necessary fuel for electricity production was discussed, with President Sisi instructing the expedited completion of the additional electricity supply system for the “New Delta” project and the broader agricultural sector to ensure the provision of strategic crops amid regional and global challenges.
President Sisi emphasized the need for regular updates to the national energy security plan. He reviewed progress on Egypt’s national energy strategy until 2040, the national renewable energy strategy, and the status of clean energy projects. The discussions included increasing reliance on clean energy and reducing dependence on fossil fuels, showing the state’s commitment to the energy sector.
Efforts to improve electricity supply quality and reduce power losses, particularly in distribution networks, were also presented. In this context, President Sisi stressed the importance of implementing a comprehensive plan to achieve energy security and expanding the country’s reliance on clean and renewable energy sources.
