Presidential Decree Establishes Four-Year National Council for Human Rights

Cairo: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has issued Presidential Decree No. 119 of 2026, forming the National Council for Human Rights for a term of four years. The decree has been officially published in the Official Gazette.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the council will be led by Mr. Ahmed Ehab Abdel-Ahad Mohamed Gamal El-Din as President, with Mr. Mohamed Anwar Ahmed Esmat El-Sadat serving as Vice President. The council comprises a diverse group of members, each contributing their expertise to the human rights landscape in Egypt.

The members of the council are Ezzat Ibrahim Mikhail Youssef, Ghada Mahmoud Hammam Mahmoud, Wafaa Benjamin Basta Metri, Ayman Jaafar Zohri Ahmed, Mohamed Mamdouh Galal Abdel-Halim, Mahmoud Mohamed Saad Metwally Bassiouni, Alaa Sayed Kamel Shalaby, Saeed Abdel-Hafez Saeed Darwish, Samira Louka Daniel Abskharon, Amr Fouad Ahmed Barakat, Ehab Atef Ragheb Iskandar, Ayman El-Sayed Mahmoud Abdel-Wahab, Nasser Ibrahim Abu El-Oyoun Abdel-Nasser Selim, Mahi Hassan Abdel-Latif Mohamed, Vivian Fathy Abdel-Hady Ibrahim Morad, Gamal Maher Abdel-Hamid Hassan, Mohamed Gamal Mohamed Saeed Othman, Sherine Khalaf Mohamed Farag, Yara Mahmoud Alaa El-Din Abdo Qassem, Khaled Zakaria Mohamed Amin Abu El-Dahab, Ahmed Badawi Mahmoud Bakry, Howaida Adly Roman Boutros, Mai Ibrahim Mahmoud El-Telawy, Bakr Mohamed Sweilem Soliman, and Ayman Saber Taha Mostafa Aqeel.

The establishment of this council marks a significant step in Egypt's commitment to promoting and safeguarding human rights, with the new members expected to work on various initiatives and policies over the next four years.
